Privacy Policy

iStudy · last updated 18 October 2026

iStudy helps school students keep track of their lessons, revise and practise with AI quizzes and an AI tutor, and helps parents follow their progress. This policy explains what information iStudy uses, where it is kept, who it is shared with and the choices you have. It is written for parents and guardians; there is a short version for students at the end.

The short version

1. Who we are

iStudy is provided by iStudy, a sole trader in the United Kingdom (“we”, “us”). We are the data controller for the information described in this policy. Contact us at support@istudyapp.co.uk.

2. What information we use and where it is kept

a) On your devices

Everything you add to iStudy (child profiles, timetables, lessons, photos, PDFs, notes, AI summaries, quiz questions and results, mistakes and settings) is saved in the browser on your device. A random device code is created so the app can tell your devices apart.

b) In your own Google Drive (if you turn on sync)

When a parent turns on Sync across devices, a copy of that data is saved in an “iStudy” folder in the parent’s Google Drive, so it appears on the family’s other devices. When you connect Google, iStudy asks only for:

This copy belongs to you and stays in your Google account. iStudy’s use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Google data is never sold, shared for advertising or used to train AI models.

c) The family record we keep to run iStudy

To run the service, manage free trials and plans, keep AI costs fair and give support, we keep a small record for each family. It is stored securely in the app owner’s Google Drive and is only visible to the app owner. It contains:

WhatWhy
The parent’s Google email (or the device code if sync is off), the family’s device codes, and the dates the family first and last used iStudyTo recognise your family and link your plan to it
The names you entered for who uses each device (for example “Hany, parent”) and your children’s first names, year group and countryTo show usage per student and to tailor AI answers to the right school year
Counts only: lessons added, lessons with notes or photos, timetable periods and subjects, quizzes done and passed, average quiz score, date of the latest lessonTo understand how iStudy is used and spot problems
AI usage: number of AI requests by feature, voice tutor minutes, estimated costTo keep the service affordable and to apply trial limits
Free trial start date, plan status, and whether the family has free accessTo run trials and subscriptions and prevent repeated trials

This record never contains lesson content: no photos, PDFs, notes, summaries, quiz questions or chat messages.

d) Help and support requests

If you send an idea or a support request from the app, we receive what you write, an optional picture or screenshot (which shows whatever was on the screen, possibly a lesson or a child’s name), the name and role entered on the device, your Google email if connected, and the device code. Please avoid including information you don’t want to share.

e) Payments

Subscriptions are processed by Stripe. Stripe collects your card details directly; we never see or store full card numbers. We receive your email, name, billing country or postcode, the plan you chose, its status and invoices.

f) AI features

When you use an AI feature, the information needed for that request is sent to our AI providers, Google (Gemini) and OpenAI, to produce the answer:

We use these providers under their business (API) terms, which do not allow them to use this information to train their AI models. They may keep it for a short time to detect abuse, as their terms allow.

g) Technical information

Like any website, our hosting provider (Google Cloud) automatically records basic technical information such as IP addresses and the time of each request, to keep the service secure and working. The app also loads fonts from Google Fonts and, when you take a screenshot for a support request, a small tool from jsDelivr; these services can see your IP address.

h) Cookies and local storage

iStudy uses only what it needs to work: a cookie that remembers you use the app, a sign-in cookie for the app owner’s page, and the browser’s local storage for your data. We do not use advertising or analytics cookies.

3. Why we use it (lawful bases)

We do not use your family’s data for advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not build marketing profiles of children.

4. Children

iStudy is made for school students and is designed to be set up and managed by a parent or guardian, who agrees to these terms on the child’s behalf. Google sign-in and payments are done by the parent. We collect as little as we can about children: on our side only their first name, year group, country and simple counts. There are no ads, no public profiles and no chatting with other people. Parents can see their child’s lessons and progress in the app, set a parent PIN, turn features off and ask us to delete data at any time. If you believe a child is using iStudy without a parent’s knowledge, please contact us.

5. Who we share information with

We only share information with service providers who help us run iStudy and who must protect it:

We may also share information if the law requires it. We never sell personal information.

6. International transfers

Some of these providers process information outside the UK, mainly in the United States. When they do, the transfer is protected by recognised safeguards, such as the UK’s international data transfer agreement or addendum, standard contractual clauses or adequacy regulations.

7. How long we keep it

8. Your rights

You can ask us to give you a copy of the information we hold about your family, to correct it, to delete it, to limit how we use it or to stop using it for our legitimate interests, and to receive it in a portable format. Parents can make these requests for their children. Email support@istudyapp.co.uk from the Google email connected to iStudy, and we will reply within one month. If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.

9. Removing your data

10. Keeping it safe

iStudy uses encrypted connections (HTTPS), Google sign-in tokens are stored in sealed (encrypted) form, the Drive permission is limited to iStudy’s own files, and our records are only available to the app owner. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will tell you and the regulator if a serious breach happens, as the law requires.

11. Changes to this policy

We will update this page if anything changes and show the date at the top. If a change is important, we will tell you in the app.

For students: the short version

Your lessons, photos and notes stay on your devices and in your parent’s Google Drive. When you use the AI tutor or make a quiz, your lesson and questions are sent to an AI company to make the answer, and the voice tutor hears your voice while you talk. We only keep your first name, your school year and how much you use iStudy. We never show ads or sell your information. If you have a question, ask your parent to email us.
